Nicky Etherson, Executive Coach
Industry Experience
Nicky’s career has encompassed the building, civil engineering and energy industries where she has spent over 25 years working in commercial and contract management roles in the subsea construction sector (TechnipFMC, Stolt Offshore /Acergy and Bibby Offshore), as well as for an energy major (TotalEnergies). The majority of her roles have been within management and Executive Director positions both domestically and internationally. In addition, she is an experienced Non-Executive Director supporting several member-led not-for-profit organisations. Nicky owns a consultancy offering coaching and organisational change support as well as contracts and commercial management services.
Coaching Style
Supporting other team members has been the foundation of Nicky’s success within her career and she now applies these principles to her coaching clients. Nicky’s approach to coaching builds on her experience and is relaxed but focused, using thought-provoking tools and questions using techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). Client feedback on this blend of approaches has included “I arrived at answers to questions that I didn’t know I need answered” and “Nicky’s technique really helped me to quantify a lot of things that I want to do, and improve, to make a difference.”
Client Base
Nicky’s client base has been at senior management, functional leader and Board level across a range of sectors including energy, security and defence and learning and development. Her experience of managing international teams aids clients in developing cross cultural awareness and relationships. Based upon her career experience, Nicky has a passion for supporting individuals who are transitioning to managerial or executive positions and has a particular understanding of the challenges facing female leaders.
Qualifications and Training
Nicky has a BSc in Quantity Surveying, holds an ILM 7 qualification in Executive and Senior Level Coaching and Mentoring and is an accredited Thomas PPA practitioner. She is also a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD), has attained the IOD’s “Certificate (with Distinction) in Company Direction” and has undertaken further professional training with them including the “Fundamental Role of the Non-Executive Director”.
Nicky is a Member of the Association for Coaching and as such her practice embodies their code of ethics.
